Artificial and Human Intelligence to Price in Chaotic Markets - PPS Presentation May 6 2021
PPS Spring Conference Presentation May 6, 14:15 EDT, 20:15 CEDT
I’m presenting at the Professional Pricing Society’s spring conference again. This year it’s online, with a very interesting lineup of presentations as always.
I’ll be talking about pricing in uncertain markets, and introduce the Cynefin framework and reviewing how it can help organizations with their pricing processes and automation roadmaps. It’s a fascinating concept that can help to set the automation roadmap for companies.
Presentation Abstract
You wouldn’t dream of flying on a plane with no automation. Similarly, most people would be nervous to fly on a plane with no pilot. It’s the combination of the two that makes flying such a safe experience, even in turbulent and challenging conditions.
It’s the same with pricing. But when and how to automate is not at all clear: what’s right for the most advanced companies (say Amazon) would be a disaster for others. In this presentation we’ll use the Cynefin decision-framework to assess pricing domains and what automation fits each one. We’ll then explore how the balance of artificial and human intelligence should evolve
Participants will learn:
What can pricers learn from automation in the airline industry
The importance of balancing human and artificial intelligence at different price maturity stages
How uncertainty about the market
